The saffron of the region Gatinais was known in the 17°c. throughout Europe for its quality and finesse of its incomparable fragrance. Between the 14th to the 19th century , Boynes was the world capital of saffron. Last century, its culture still covered, more than 1,100 hectares and represented almost 20% of world production! After a period of decline, producers Loiret were back to plant the crocus whose delicate orange pistils are tasty spice. With a painstaking work and patience, because you need 160,000 bulbs for one kilo of saffron!
